Guam Power Authority (GPA) participated in the FB Leon Guerrero Middle School (FBLGMS) Science Expo on February 21, 2024.
Approximately 450 students visited the GPA booth where they listened to SPORD Engineer III Victor Torres explain the different types of renewable energy and demonstrated how renewable energy works using solar and wind STEM Kits. Students also learned about energy conservation and energy-efficiency tips highlighted by the "Beat-the-Peak" campaign discussed by GPA Communications personnel.
T&D Lineman Electrician II Damon Hocog emphasized the importance of wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) for safety when working with electricity. He also showcased a hot dog demonstration on electrical safety which showed students the harmful effects electricity causes on human skin without the use of safety gear.
FBLGMS students ranging from 6th to 8th grade that visited the GPA static display received GPA fidget spinners and energy-related Beat-the-Peak origami.
